  • ON THE HEELS OF QUALIFYING FOR THE NOVEMBER BALLOT, NEVADANS FOR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM UNVEILS BROAD COALITION OF SUPPORT

Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: July 12, 2024 Contact: press@nv4reprofreedom.org   Coalition organizations prepare to knock over 1 million doors to mobilize Nevada voters to protect reproductive rights Reno, NV –  Today, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom unveils a broad coalition of partner organizations united to mobilize voters in support of abortion rights. The coalition includes organizations representing Nevada’s Latino, Black, Indigenous, Asian and Pacific Islander, communities; reproductive rights organizations; healthcare advocacy organizations; and many more that reflect Nevada’s diverse communities and interests. On June 28th, the Nevada Secretary of State officially certified a constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights for the November 2024 ballot. Nevadans strongly believe  abortion should be legal. The coalition’s partner organizations plan to contact over one million voters across Nevada to ensure that voters who believe decisions about abortion should stay between women and their doctors turn out to make their voices heard this fall.  “Women, including Latinas, are bringing Nevada back and want our government to provide us with more opportunities, freedoms and rights, not strip them away," said Melissa Morales, President and Founder of Somos Votantes and Somos PAC.  "While incredibly dangerous state abortion bans continue to be put in place by anti-abortion politicians across the country, it is crucial we protect Nevadans' rights. Latinas remain the largest group of women of color in the nation disproportionately impacted by such bans, and passing this constitutional amendment is an important step in ensuring we protect the lives of women and doctors in the Silver State. This is why Somos Votantes is committed to knocking on 1 million doors to encourage hard working Nevadans to vote yes to this year's amendment protecting a woman's right to choose and to support candidates committed to protecting our rights. What a woman chooses to do with her body is a personal decision between themselves and their doctor, not politicians." "One APIA Nevada is proud to support the Reproductive Freedom Initiative to protect all women in Nevada," said  Amy Koo, Political Director with One APIA Nevada.  "An overwhelming 79% of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander adults support abortion access, and 75% want government action to guarantee that access nationwide. We stand by the right for people to choose what to do with their own bodies and believe everyone should have access to safe reproductive care without restriction."  “We at Make the Road Action Nevada are committed to justice, equity, and the fundamental rights of all people,”   said  Blanca Macias, Deputy Director of Make the Road Action Nevada. “ We are proud to support the ballot initiative to protect reproductive rights. The initiative aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the right to make their own body decisions. Reproductive rights are human rights. They are essential to our dignity, our health, and our freedom. For too long, underserved communities—particularly Latine, Black, Indigenous, and low-income individuals—have faced systemic barriers to accessing reproductive healthcare. This initiative is about creating a Nevada where everyone has the right to safe, affordable, and accessible reproductive healthcare.” La lista de organizaciones de la coalición son: ACLU Nevada All Above All* Battle Born Progress Care in Action Chicanos Por La Causa Committee to Protect Health Care Human Rights Campaign Indivisible Indivisible Northern Nevada Indivisible Prickly Pears League Of Women Voters Nevada Make it Work Nevada Make the Road Action Nevada Mi Familia Vota MoveOn Nevada NAACP Native Voters Alliance of Nevada Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence Nevada Organization of Women Nevada Women's Lobby One APIA Nevada PLAN Action Planned Parenthood Advocates Mar Monte Planned Parenthood Federation of America Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada Reproductive Freedom For All Silver State Equality Somos Votantes Think Big America Vote Pro Choice ### Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom is a campaign united to enshrine the right to abortion into the Nevada constitution. • NEVADA ABORTION RIGHTS AMENDMENT QUALIFIES FOR NOVEMBER BALLOT

Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: June 28, 2024 Contact: press@nv4reprofreedom.org   After Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom submitted more than 200,000 signatures from all 17 Nevada counties, the Nevada Secretary of State certified the measure to appear on the 2024 ballot  Reno, NV – Today, the Nevada Secretary of State officially certified a constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights for the November 2024 ballot. Last month, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom turned in more than 200,000 voter signatures from all 17 counties in Nevada, demonstrating broad support for the amendment across the state and political spectrum.  Nevadans strongly believe  abortion should be legal. Ongoing attacks on abortion rights and reproductive health care – including IVF and contraception – nationally and in states across the country underscores the urgency of passing permanent state constitutional protections to keep politicians out of Nevadans’ personal medical decisions.  Lindsey Harmon, President of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, issued the following statement: “Today, the Nevada Secretary of State certified that Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom’s constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights will appear on the ballot this November. The support this initiative has received from Nevadans throughout the signature collection process shows what we’ve known to be true: Nevadans believe that healthcare decisions about abortion are best left to women, their doctors, and those they love and trust – not politicians.  Nevadans strongly believe that abortion should be legal. But at every turn, anti-abortion activists have attempted to prevent Nevadans from making their voices heard with pointless lawsuits and misinformation.  Today, we are thrilled that Nevadans will be able to make their voices heard and stand up for the right to make their own healthcare decisions in the face of government interference. In an election year with critical implications for abortion and reproductive health care, our campaign, coalition partners, and supporters will be out in communities across the state, talking to  neighbors, family, and friends about turning out to vote in support of reproductive rights this fall.” Denise Lopez, Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Nevada Campaigns issued the following statement:   “It’s a great day for abortion rights and access in the state of Nevada. Today we are one step closer to Nevadans having the opportunity to vote for their reproductive freedom and giving power back to the people. This campaign is a grassroots-led effort by communities from all corners of our state seeking to guarantee a better future for generations to come, and we are proud to be a part of it. Voters see the damage abortion bans are causing in states across the country, and they are ready to make sure that never happens here in Nevada.” Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada: In Nevada, a 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. Wade into state law. However, statutory protections do not mean the right is codified in the state constitution The petition initiative to enshrine protections for abortion into the Nevada constitution seeks to build upon and improve existing statutory protections while taking into account the changing abortion access national landscape after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization en el verano de 2022 ### Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom is a campaign united to enshrine the right to abortion into the Nevada constitution. • On Dobbs anniversary, more than 175 Nevada medical professionals endorse Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom ballot initiative

Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, June 24, 2024 CONTACT: tova@nv4reprofreedom.org Reno, NV — On the two year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that overturned 50 years of federal constitutional protections for abortion rights, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, in conjunction with the Committee to Protect Health Care, released a list of more than 150 Nevada medical professionals who have signed onto a letter endorsing the ballot initiative aimed at codifying protections for abortion in the Nevada state constitution. Read the full letter of support here Today in Reno, two Nevada physicians shared the devastating consequences to patients since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and the dire implications for patients’ health and well-being. Dr. Toby Frescholtz, an OB-GYN in Reno, said the following: “Anti-abortion politicians and activists will continue to attack our rights, even though it’s extremely unpopular. In fact, four in five Americans believe that questions of reproductive rights should be left to a patient and their doctor, not the government. Politicians across the country will continue to try to control women’s personal decisions not just on abortion but on reproductive health and freedom as a whole… As we look toward another election with extreme anti-abortion candidates running at all levels of government, we must take matters into our own hands. We need to ensure that Nevadans’ health, values, and rights are protected, no matter who is in charge. Doctors like us wholeheartedly support the ballot initiative to enshrine abortion rights into the Nevada constitution. We encourage our fellow Nevadans to do the same.” Dr. Philip Malinas, psychiatrist in Reno, said the following: “The two years since the Dobbs decision have brought chaos, pain, and suffering for patients across the country. We’ve heard tragic stories of Idaho women being denied care. One such woman, Rebecca Vincen-Brown, had been trying for almost a year to conceive another child. When she finally did, she learned that the pregnancy had an almost certainly fatal chromosomal abnormality. The pregnancy would also put Rebecca at risk of preeclampsia or hemorrhaging. Although these conditions could threaten her life, Rebecca was unable to get abortion care because of Idaho’s ban. She was forced to travel to Portland, Oregon, and while awaiting the care she needed, was forced to deliver her stillborn baby in a hotel room… This shouldn’t be happening in the United States.” Linda Massie, a supporter and volunteer, shared her abortion story and why she’s fighting to preserve reproductive rights: “Today, I cannot believe that I have to share my story. I never imagined myself having to talk about my abortion from over 50 years ago, but when I think about what is happening around the country because of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, I am afraid… I’ve decided to share my story publicly for the first time today because I’m shocked and angry that after 50 years of protections for abortion when women could make these deeply personal decisions with their doctors, we’re now back in a time when women’s lives are being put at risk just like mine was. I’m supporting the crucial effort to protect abortion rights in the Nevada state constitution so that no women has to experience what I went through.” Background on Abortion Laws in Nevada: In Nevada, a 1990 voter referendum codified some protections for abortion into state law. However, statutory protections do not mean the right is codified in the state constitution. The petition initiative to enshrine protections for abortion into the Nevada constitution seeks to build upon and improve existing statutory protections while taking into account the changing abortion access national landscape after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in the summer of 2022. • ICYMI: Nevada Health Care Providers, Patients, and Advocates Respond to SCOTUS Emergency Abortion Case Oral Arguments

Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: April 25, 2024 LINK TO VIDEO & PHOTOS Las Vegas, NV  –   Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case that will determine the future of EMTALA, a federal law that guarantees that, in an emergency, patients receive the lifesaving care they need, including abortion care. Idaho v. United States and Moyle v. United States is the second case related to abortion coming before the Supreme Court since the Dobbs  decision, and could have catastrophic impacts on women and patients across the country.  The impacts of striking down EMTALA, the key to protecting life-saving abortion care, will be dire. Being denied care has resulted in, and will continue to result in, putting women and patients in life-threatening situations. A hospital could refuse to treat a pregnant patient in a medical emergency, like their water breaking dangerously early or an uncontrollable hemorrhage.  Dr. Christine Miyake, an emergency medicine physician, said:  “I have seen several different cases where the woman would have died had they not received an emergency abortion. Women who are experiencing an ectopic pregnancy that has ruptured are at high risk of hemorrhaging and death. My patient was hemorrhaging so severely that we had to provide multiple transfusions just to be able to get her stable enough to go to the operating room. Other cases where medical abortion is necessary is a case where I saw a patient who ruptured her membranes early and developed a severe uterine infection and she was dying from the infection. If they were not able to provide that abortion, she surely would have died from the infection.” Not only is the threat to protections for lifesaving care dangerous, anti-abortion extremists behind this challenge are deeply out of step with voters: according to a 2023 Wall Street Journal poll, 9 in 10 Americans  support abortion access when a woman’s health is seriously endangered by the pregnancy. Extremists would rather put a woman’s life at risk than grant them access to life-saving medical care.  Laura Campbell, Director of Actions for Nevada NOW, shared her experience of receiving lifesaving care while pregnant:  “Throughout this experience, I was taken care of by my doctors, and I am grateful for that… But not everyone has that. We are hearing stories of women miscarrying in emergency rooms, of pregnant women being turned away from hospitals. That could easily have been me. Nobody should be denied healthcare in a medical emergency. That is what’s at stake in the case before the Supreme Court today. The law being argued today is key to protecting life-saving abortion care – the very same care I received.” This case is part of a broader strategy to ban abortion and other reproductive health care altogether. Without the constitutional protection of Roe v. Wade , attacks like this one are a reminder of the urgency of our fight to enshrine abortion access as a constitutional right for Nevadans.  Crystal Barbarin Garcia, Promotore de Salud with Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, said: “With our rights continuously under attack, the work we are doing in Nevada to protect access to abortion in our state constitution could not be more critical… Everyone experiencing a health emergency should be able to get the care they need—including an abortion—without political interference.” Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada: A 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. Wade  into state law. However, statutory protections do not mean the right is codified in the state constitution The petition initiative to enshrine reproductive freedom into the Nevada constitution seeks to build upon and improve existing statutory protections while taking into account the changing abortion access national landscape after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. • NEVADA SUPREME COURT DELIVERS MAJOR VICTORY FOR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: April 18, 2024 Reno, NV —   Today, the Nevada Supreme Court ruled in favor of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, concluding that petition language filed in September 2023 to enshrine the right to reproductive freedom into the state constitution meets Nevada’s legal requirements for a ballot measure. Specifically, the court ruled that the petition does not violate the state’s single-subject rule and the petition does not create an unfunded mandate on the state.  Today’s ruling is a major blow to extreme anti-abortion activists who have sought to keep Nevadans from being able to vote on the future of abortion access in the state. While legal proceedings have been underway, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom have gathered more than  160,000 signatures in support of a second version of the initiative to codify abortion protections in the state constitution. The campaign intends to submit the second petition to the Nevada Secretary of State and is well ahead of schedule to qualify it for the 2024 ballot. Lindsey Harmon, President of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, made the following statement:  “Today’s ruling is an unequivocal recognition of what we’ve always known to be true: The right to reproductive freedom includes all aspects of a person’s reproductive health care. Protecting these rights is essential to ensuring that all Nevadans maintain full control over their own lives, especially as we continue to see attacks on abortion, IVF, birth control, and other reproductive health services. While we have decided to pursue a petition focused on protecting abortion rights specifically, we will continue to pursue every possible avenue to make sure that all vital reproductive health services are protected in our state’s laws.” Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada: A 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. • NEVADANS FOR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM ANNOUNCES MORE THAN 110,000 SIGNATURES COLLECTED

Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: April 2, 2024 Reno, NV —   Today, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom announced that the campaign to codify abortion protections in the state’s constitution has collected more than 110,000 signatures over the past six weeks. This latest signature collection milestone represents more than 50% of the campaign’s total signature goal and demonstrates the campaign is on track to turn in sufficient valid signatures by the June 26th qualification deadline.  In order to qualify for the 2024 ballot, the campaign must submit a minimum of 102,362 valid voter signatures, including at least 25,591 from each of the state’s four congressional districts. The campaign has been actively collecting signatures from all four congressional districts and from reproductive rights supporters across the political spectrum. Lindsey Harmon, President of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, said:  “We are overwhelmed by Nevadans’ enthusiasm for protecting our reproductive rights and by the eagerness that voters across the political spectrum have shown for our petition. With more than 110,000 signatures gathered in less than six weeks, it’s a true testament to the fact that Nevadans recognize the importance in codifying reproductive freedom into our state constitution. As we continue to see new attacks on abortion access around the country, Nevadans recognize that there is real urgency to get this measure on the ballot and passed.” Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada: A 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. • NEVADANS FOR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM STATEMENT AHEAD OF SCOTUS ORAL ARGUMENTS IN MIFEPRISTONE CASE

Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: March 26, 2024 Reno, NV — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case of Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine. Justices are reviewing a ruling by the Fifth Circuit federal appeals court that would dramatically restrict (but not eliminate altogether) access to mifepristone, a safe and effective drug used in medication abortions.  Medication abortions make up more than half of abortions in the U.S., and mifepristone has been used by millions of patients for more than two decades. Keeping mifepristone available is essential to protecting access to abortion for people across the country. If the Supreme Court upholds the Fifth Circuit’s decision, abortion access will be drastically restricted nationwide, even in states like Nevada where abortion is currently legal.  This attack on a safe and effective medication that has been approved by the FDA for decades is just the latest from anti-abortion extremists dedicated to banning abortion nationwide and denying people the freedom to make their own health care decisions.  Lindsey Harmon, President, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, said:  “ The Supreme Court’s hearing of the mifepristone case, one of two this session that could have major implications for abortion access nationwide, including in states like Nevada, is yet another proofpoint of how urgent the effort to codify abortion into the Nevada constitution is. This is one of many attacks being brought forth by anti-abortion activists, politicians, and judges in the wake of the Dobbs  decision, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that abortion access remains protected for generations of Nevadans to come.” Denise Lopez, Director of Nevada Campaigns for Reproductive Freedom for, said: “If the U.S. Supreme Court decides to rule in favor of anti-abortion extremists and restrict mifepristone nationwide, it would have catastrophic effects for people in our state who will face more barriers to accessing the care they need. The vast majority of Nevadans — 4 in 5 — support the right to abortion, and any decision rolling back access to this safe and effective medication flies in the face of Nevadans’ values. Nevadans have already spoken up once, voting overwhelmingly to lock abortion rights into law in 1990, and they’re ready to do it again. The Supreme Court must rule against this baseless case.” West Juhl, Director of Communications and Campaigns, ACLU of Nevada said: “Yet again we find ourselves bracing for impact against an extremist faction that seeks to chip away from our individual liberty and our right to bodily autonomy. The case against mifepristone is entirely removed from medical and scientific knowledge, but it still threatens to have serious effects on health care for all Americans, including in Nevada. And, it serves as yet further proof that we can’t take any of our rights for granted and that we have to take action to affirm and protect our rights here at home.” Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada: A 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. Wade  into state law. However, statutory protections do not mean the right is codified in the state constitution. The petition initiative to enshrine reproductive freedom into the Nevada constitution seeks to build upon and improve existing statutory protections while taking into account the changing abortion access national landscape after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade  in its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization  in the summer of 2022. ### Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom is a campaign united to enshrine the right to reproductive freedom into the Nevada constitution. We are a coalition of progressive organizations and citizens who believe that in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the summer of 2022, Nevadans must take the final step of cementing into the state’s constitution the right to abortion.

  • CARSON CITY DISTRICT JUDGE CLEARS REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS PETITION FOR BALLOT

Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: Tuesday, January 23, 2024 Reno, NV — Today, Carson City District Court Judge James Russell ruled against radical anti-abortion activists and their latest attempt to prevent a proposed reproductive rights constitutional amendment from appearing on Nevada’s 2024 general election ballot. Today’s ruling found that the petition filed by Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom on December 6, 2023 meets statutory requirements and can move forward for signature gathering. An initial version of the petition filed last September is under review by the Nevada Supreme Court.   Lindsey Harmon, President of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, made the following statement:  “Today’s ruling ensures Nevadans will have the opportunity to establish a permanent state constitutional right to abortion this November. However, abortion rights are not the only form of reproductive freedom under attack across the country. Protecting miscarriage management, birth control, prenatal and postpartum care, and other vital reproductive health care services are inextricably linked pieces of a singular right to reproductive freedom. With this in mind, we remain confident that the Nevada Supreme Court will recognize that our initial petition meets all requirements under Nevada law and will quickly issue a favorable ruling on our pending appeal.” Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada: A 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. • STATEMENT FROM NEVADANS FOR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM ON RULING CHALLENGING PETITION INITIATIVE

Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 21, 2023 Reno, NV —  Today, a Nevada judge ruled against Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom and in favor of radical anti-abortion advocates legal challenge to the Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom PAC petition filed on September 14th, 2023.  The legal challenge, riddled with harmful misleading anti-abortion rhetoric, is simply a tactic to delay and deny Nevada voters the opportunity to decide for themselves whether to enshrine the right to reproductive freedom in the state constitution.  Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom plans to appeal the decision to the Nevada Supreme Court in the coming days.  Lindsey Harmon, President of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, said:  “Nevadans overwhelmingly support putting reproductive rights into our state constitution, and voters should be aware that anti-abortion advocates still have plenty of state government allies who are willing to help them undermine reproductive freedom. However, we will not let one judge’s misguided ruling deter us from giving Nevadans the opportunity to vote to permanently protect their reproductive rights in the Nevada Constitution.” Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada:  A 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. • NEVADANS FOR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM FILES PETITION TO APPEAR ON BALLOT IN 2024

Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 14, 2023 Reno, NV —  Today, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom filed for a petition initiative to put the right to reproductive freedom on the ballot for Nevadans in 2024. The effort seeks to give Nevada voters an opportunity to codify their fundamental right to reproductive freedom in the state constitution after the loss of federal abortion protections in the summer of 2022. Advocates of the effort must collect 103,000 signatures by June 2024 in order to qualify for the ballot in November 2024. If passed next year by voters, the measure would automatically appear again on the 2026 general election ballot for final passage. The effort is led by a coalition that includes Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada, NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada, and the ACLU of Nevada as founding members.  Lindsey Harmon, Executive Director for Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada said:  “The urgency of this moment in our nation’s history demands immediate action from us all. Abortion rights and access in this country are in peril like never before despite the fact that the broad majority of Americans support abortion rights. The fallout of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade has shown us that we have already suffered one year too long without the guaranteed right to reproductive freedom, and we simply cannot afford to stand by and allow any further encroachment on the fundamental right of Nevadans to determine their own reproductive lives and care.”  Caroline Mello Roberson, Director of State Campaigns for NARAL Pro-Choice America said:  “When the Supreme Court ended the constitutional right to abortion care, it permanently altered the landscape for access across the country. Now, state-level protections like those we have in Nevada are being tested like never before. Anti-abortion extremists are more determined than ever to end abortion access, and we cannot and will not allow their dangerous vision for Nevada to become a reality. Locking the right to abortion into our state constitution will help us expand access to abortion care and ensure care remains an option for all who need it in our state and those who have to travel here to access it. NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada and our 48,000 members are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work alongside our partners in the Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom campaign to pass this important initiative.” West Juhl, director of communications and campaigns for the ACLU of Nevada said: “Since the shameful overturning of Roe v. Wade, it has become clear that the work in Nevada is about holding the line to protect our access to abortion care and about making sure that everyone can get the care that they need. We’re proud to be a part of the Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom campaign and to fight for greater equity and justice.” Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada:  A 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v.
